German Exchange Program
German_web1.jpgSaskatoon Public Schools coordinates exchange programs with the state of Schleswig-Holstein in Germany for Grade 11 students. Student exchanges of either six weeks or three months in length are available.

The program has operated since 1979. It is hosted at Aden Bowman and Walter Murray collegiates.

Six-Week Exchange

The six-week exchange begins with Canadian students going to live with their host partners/families from about mid-June to the end of July. Their German partners come to Canada in late August, approximately one week before school resumes, and remain until the end of September.

The program is open to students who are currently in grades 10 or 11. Knowledge of German is not a prerequisite.

Three-Month Exchange

The three-month exchange allows students from Germany to live with their hosts in Saskatoon for the first three months of the school year, attending whichever public school their host partners attend. The Saskatoon students, upon completing their second semester, work in a specially designed program, travel to Germany, live with their exchange partner's family and attend school with their partners for the final three months of the school year.

The application period for the 2023-24 three-month exchange program closed on November 10, 2022. The German partners of current Grade 10 students arrived in August 2023; Canadian students will live in Germany from April to June 2024.

This exchange is designed for students studying German at Aden Bowman or Walter Murray collegiates.
