Marion M. Graham Collegiate opened in September, 1984 by Her Excellency, the Governor General of Canada, Madame Jeanne Sauvé. In naming our school Marion M. Graham Collegiate, the Saskatoon Public School Division recognized not only Miss Graham’s lifetime of devoted service to education in Saskatoon but also her significant contributions to her community and her country.
Miss Graham taught in Saskatoon for thirty years after which she served as a member of the Saskatoon Public School Board from 1967 to 1982. During these years she worked tirelessly for the development of learning resource centres in Saskatoon public schools, a service that is now available to all students. Miss Graham also devoted her energies to community life, working as a volunteer with such organizations as the Air Cadet Movement, the St. John Ambulance Association, the YWCA, and the United Way. As a result of these activities, many awards of recognition came to Miss Graham including appointment to the Order of Canada in 1977. Marion Graham’s family clan motto is “Ne Oublie” – do not forget. Marion M. Graham’s life serves as a reminder to us of what constitutes an exemplary life: the importance of learning, service to one’s community, dedication to the lives of others, and responsible citizenship.
