École Alvin Buckwold School is a multi-cultural school with students and staff of various cultures and religions. We believe in the value of every child as we work together to build a strong school community that is welcoming for all families. We promote the values of Canadian citizenship and celebrate our differences. Our School Community Council is active in supporting our school’s educational goals and in creating opportunities for our parents/guardians to meet one another and engage in the education of their children.

 

Each year our school sets strategic improvement goals to improve student learning. In the 2012-2013 year we are placing emphasis and professional development on increasing our students’ reading levels (with a particular emphasis on our reluctant readers and our new Canadian readers) and improving our students’ understandings in mathematics. When teachers learn and examine their instructional practice, student learning improves. We are also working to better engage our students in their learning through the integration of technology (Ipads, SmartBoards, flip cameras, and numerous computer programs) and experiential-inquiry based projects. We believe in challenging our students academically and we want our students to be the critical thinkers and creative problem-solvers necessary in the 21st century.
