School partnerships with Care & Share highlighted for Board of Education

November 29, 2019

boardnov26_news.jpgThe support provided to schools and students from the businesses and community organizations through Care & Share Saskatoon was highlighted during the Celebrating Excellence portion of the Nov. 26 meeting of the Board of Education.

Care & Share helps to identify and match partners with schools. Community partners respond to requests in a variety of ways including volunteering their time and energy at school events and by raising and contributing funds to support programming.  This collaboration allows schools to more effectively meet the needs of students.

Staff and students from King George Community School, along with a Care & Share representative, told trustees about the long-term relationship between the school and Saskatoon B'Nai Brith, which has resulted in the provision of many positive student experiences and supports.

Trustees also received an update on the school division's Arts Education program. Instruction in the four disciplines of music, dance, drama, and visual art arts plays a valuable role in helping students to achieve their potential as learners in relation to the four student goal areas of academic excellence, character, engagement, and well-being. Highlights of kindergarten to Grade 12 Arts Education programs, partnerships, and professional development opportunities illustrated how Saskatoon Public Schools' strategic plan is actualized through the arts.

Reports and information presented at board meetings can be found at www.saskatoonpublicschools.ca. The next meeting of the Board of Education is Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2019, at 7 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.
