A proposal touting the benefits of low-flow toilets was a winning project for a trio of students from Greystone Heights School.

Jinny Kim, Heather Grove, and Kassie Tan won the $1,000 top prize for their entry in the Caring for Our Watersheds Saskatchewan program presented by the Partners for the Saskatchewan River Basin and Agrium.

In addition, the Grade 8 students also won a $1,000 matching prize for their school and are eligible to apply for a share of $10,000 in project implementation funds that are available to all entrants of the competition.

The competition was open to students in Grades 7-12. Participating students were asked to research a watershed, identify an environmental concern and create a realistic, difference-making solution as part of a 1,000-word proposal. The entries were judged on innovation, environmental impact, project scope, communication and budget.

Eight of the 10 project finalists were the work of students from Saskatoon Public Schools, including Ella Funk and Alice Yurach of Montgomery School who finished second and received a $900 prize for their educational children's book proposal. The team of Claire Thomson, Micah Muller, and Nicola Janz of Brunskill School saw their project entitled Mark It Up place third and they received an $800 prize. All 10 finalists received a matching cash prize for their respective schools.
