Vimy Ridge Trip 2017

June 05, 2015

April 9th, 2017 marks the 100th anniversary of Canada's capture of Vimy Ridge: "The capture of Vimy was more than just an important battlefield victory. For the first time all four Canadian divisions attacked together: men from all regions of Canada were present at the battle. Brigadier-General A.E. Ross declared after the war, "in those few minutes I witnessed the birth of a nation" (http://www.warmuseum.ca/cwm/exhibitions/vimy/index_e.shtml). Bedford Road Collegiate is excited to announce that current grade 9 and 10 students can take part in a nine day trip to France starting April 6, 2017.  We will take part in the official Government of Canada anniversary ceremony, explore the trenches, tunnels, surrounding area (Passchendaele, etc.) and also visit Normandy and the landing beaches and explore Paris and many other historical war sites.  Perhaps an experience like this might help us define what it means to be Canadian a little more. More details, trip cost and the itinerary are available.
Please note this trip is sanctioned and supported by Saskatoon Public Schools and the trip takes place during school time in the days leading up to the Easter vacation in 2017.
There will be a meeting for all interested students and their parents at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday June 9, 2015 in Room 213 at Bedford Road.  Please email Kim Buglass (BRCI IB Diploma Coordinator/English teacher) at [email protected] if you have any questions before the meeting.
