Prerequisite: ELA10 & ELB10
This course will explore the curricular outcomes and themes of English Language Arts 20 (ELA 20) through an anti-racist and anti-oppressive lens. We will examine relevant and engaging texts that focus on self, society, and what it means to be human through a focus on social and racial justice. By examining the complex nature of self, society, and humanity, we will better understand how society (historically and contemporarily) shapes our identities. We all experience the world through our identities such as race, gender, sexuality, class, and ability.
If you feel passionate about justice in these areas, or have wanted to learn more about them, this course is for you! Understanding that we experience the world through multiple identities allows us to explore how privilege and marginalization are the lenses through which we view the world. This course will empower you as a student to create change and action to make our community (and world) a more just place for everyone.
